In
spite of the turmoil in world economics,
any good manager will tell you he or she spends very little time on
the things that are outside his / her control, but rather directs
his / her energy towards the things
that can be changed or influenced.

Many of the above happen behind the scenes and sometimes go by unnoticed. The Business Guide on the other hand, is something tangible we provide to our members and an offering of which we are very proud. Not only is it a handy guide to keep in your top drawer, but also provides an ideal opportunity to advertise your product or service. With regards to networking, any Chamber function is a networking event. During 2008 we started “Early bird networking” sessions and indications are that this will become very popular. Our “entrepreneur club” initiative is the vehicle for future growth. Our seminars and workshops in 2008: How to start and fund your own business, Women in Construction and How to tender successfully, were well supported and appreciated. These will continue in 2009. Some communities and groupings have their own specific challenges and we have demonstrated our ability to cater for this in the Stilfontein business community, where good progress is made towards functioning almost as a mini-chamber while being part of the greater Chamber. The Chamber has also built a very good relationship with the North West African Chamber of Commerce that is also affiliated to SACCI. We are already exchanging information and we hope to further strengthen this relationship in 2009. The last two years have seen encouraging growth of the Wesvaal Chamber, and we look forward to continuing the trend by welcoming new members during 2009. Our enthusiastic and passionate Chamber Manager, Mr Hans Janke is at your service, and would be delighted to personally visit your business, so please feel free to extend an invitation to him. 2009 is predicted to test the business acumen of entrepreneurs throughout the world as never before. I wish I could tell you that as you page through this book that you would find the secret answers to: What will the impact of the chaos in the world economy be on South Africa and specifically on Klerksdorp, or what will things like the gold price, interest rates, and fuel prices do? And while we’re at it, how will the political landscape change? I am afraid you won't find the answers to these questions here. However, the Wesvaal Chamber of Business and SACCI are committed to support you where ever possible to see you through these taxing times. In closure I wish to thank members and sponsors for their support in 2009, the executive committee for their dedication and effort, the Chamber Manager, Hans Janke, who must get the credit of much of the success of the chamber during the past two years, and our Heavenly Father for granting us the wisdom and energy to achieve the goals we have set. I wish you all a prosperous 2009.
