Chamber activities in 2008•A workshop with SARS on the new PAYE and e-filing system •A seminar on “Women in Construction” – a great success and seriously oversubscribed. •A seminar on “How to Tender Successfully”. This will be presented again in 2009, but in a workshop format. •The Annual General Meeting in February. •The June member meeting at AngloGold Ashanti’s training center, which realistically simulates underground mining conditions •Atlas Plastics hosted a member meeting in their factory in November.. •An “early bird networking” event was hosted by Cargo Motors in October. •A visit to the Disaster Risk Management and CCTV control center was so well attended, that a repeat performance is in the offing. •The Annual Banquet and Awards function in September. •Two workshops titled “How to start and fund your own Business” – always well received. •Input to the local IDP forum. •Comments on and suggestions for the municipal budget were provided. •Representation was made to Council regarding a troublesome intersection at the entrance to Uraniaville. •Council was approached regarding the proposed siting of a Truck Inn, as it would exacerbate traffic problems. •The Stilfontein Business Forum was initiated and maintained •A radio interview focusing on business in Stilfontein at Overvaal Stereo in Viljoenskroon. •During Eskom’s load shedding period, the Chamber proved to be a valuable communication agent and also arranged and participated in a public meeting when load shedding started. •Progress meetings of the District’s development forum were attended. •LED meetings dealing with Big Bang projects, such as the airport, CBD revitalization and N12 developments were attended. •A meeting of the Mining Forum was attended. •SACCI’s Annual Convention was attended. •Attendance of the North West African Chamber of Commerce Convention in Mafikeng, provided valuable insights into business in and links with Botswana. •The bosberaad of the Chamber Managers Forum again provided invaluable inputs to a chamber of our size and locality. |
